If you were cited or charged in Ogden — a DUI stop on Washington Blvd, a misdemeanor arrest, a traffic citation — your case almost certainly begins at the Ogden City Justice Court. Our office has defended cases in this courthouse for years, and it sits just minutes from our front door. Here is what you need to know before your first appearance.
Court Location & Contact
The Ogden City Justice Court is located at 310 26th Street, Ogden, UT 84401. The court clerk can be reached at (801) 629-8560. Business hours are Monday through Thursday 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. and Friday 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m., excluding holidays. Many routine hearings are now held remotely over WebEx — your notice or the Utah Courts calendar will tell you whether to appear in person or online, and we confirm this for every client before their hearing date.
What Cases This Court Handles
Utah justice courts handle class B and class C misdemeanors, infractions, and traffic citations that occur within their city limits — the Ogden City Justice Court can only hear charges arising inside Ogden City. That includes most first and second DUI charges (class B misdemeanors), driving on a suspended license, retail theft, and similar offenses. Felonies and class A misdemeanors — including felony DUI — are filed instead in the Second District Court at 2525 Grant Avenue.
Your First Appearance: The Arraignment
For most misdemeanors, your first setting is an arraignment — where the charges are read and you enter a plea. Two things matter here: first, do not plead guilty just to get it over with; a DUI conviction in Utah carries mandatory penalties that follow you for a decade. Second, in a DUI case the arraignment is not your most urgent deadline — the 10-day window to request a Driver License Division hearing runs from your arrest, not your court date, and it will usually expire before you ever see a judge.
How We Defend Cases in the Ogden Justice Court
Justice court has a feature most people don't know: if the outcome goes against you, Utah law gives you the right to a trial de novo — a completely fresh trial — in district court. That structural safety net changes defense strategy: it creates room to litigate suppression issues, challenge field sobriety tests and breath test results, and negotiate from strength. We appear in this courthouse routinely, we know its procedures, and our office at 3856 Washington Blvd is a few blocks away.
