Brady held the Weber County Legal Defender contract and served as a public defender contractor in Box Elder County — work that put him in front of the same judges and prosecutors nearly every day, often resolving several felony cases on a single calendar. He knows how these cases actually move, which arguments land in which courtroom, and what a file is really worth long before a prosecutor tells him.
He has carried cases through every stage of the process: preliminary and evidentiary hearings, dispositive and suppression motion practice, jury voir dire, and jury and bench trials to verdict. The charges run the full range — assault and aggravated assault, domestic violence, drug possession and distribution, weapons offenses, theft and property crimes, and fraud and financial allegations. He has also defended a significant number of sex-offense cases — among the most consequential charges the State of Utah brings, and the ones most defense lawyers refuse to take — and has handled homicide matters as well.
His work does not stop at the trial court. Brady has taken criminal cases up on appeal and won them — preserving issues in the record where they have to be preserved, briefing them properly, and getting relief for clients whose cases were decided wrongly below. Brady earned his Juris Doctor from the S.J. Quinney College of Law at the University of Utah in 2009, after a B.A. from Weber State University in his hometown of Ogden. He is admitted to practice before the Utah State Bar and the U.S. District Court for the District of Utah, and is a member of the Utah Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. From the firm’s home office on Washington Blvd, he defends clients in district and justice courts across the entire state — from Logan to St. George.
Much of Brady’s practice is devoted to DUI defense under Utah’s uniquely strict laws — the nation’s lowest 0.05% BAC limit and the unforgiving 10-day DLD hearing deadline. He digs into every stop, every breathalyzer calibration record, and every bodycam frame, and files suppression motions when the state oversteps.
Before he devoted his practice to criminal defense, Brady spent the first part of his career on the other side of the legal world. He served as sole in-house General Counsel for a fast-growing energy company — the only lawyer in the building, advising the executive team on acquisitions, commercial contracts, employment, litigation strategy, and licensing in every jurisdiction the company entered. Before that he was a compliance officer inside a large, heavily regulated national financial-services enterprise, where he planned and conducted regulatory reviews of business units, investigated findings alongside internal audit and the general counsel’s office, and reported error trends to executive leadership.
Along the way he drafted and negotiated complex commercial and financing agreements, built enterprise compliance programs from scratch, and represented his employers in mediations, arbitrations, and negotiations with state and federal regulators.
That background is unusual in a criminal courtroom, and it matters more than it sounds like it should. Cases built out of documents rather than dashcam footage — fraud and financial charges, regulatory exposure, professional-license consequences — are the files most defense lawyers dread and Brady has spent years living inside.
